The 27 A is the heat limit. What sizes a DC run is the drop: current × route metres × 18 mV/A/m ÷ 1000, with the 18 already counting both the positive and the negative leg. A 9 A string over a 25 m roof-to-board route drops 9 × 25 × 18 ÷ 1000 = 4.05 V, which on a 250 V array is 1.6% — inside the 3% solar work is designed to, with room to spare. The same 9 A on a 48 V battery circuit has a budget of only 1.44 V, so it reaches 1.44 × 1000 ÷ (9 × 18) = 8.9 m. Run the cable at its full 27 A on that 48 V bank and you are down to 3.0 m. High string voltage buys distance; battery voltage does not, which is why inverter and battery runs go up to 6mm DC cable and larger.
Single-core DC cable, not AC building wire.
