Every coil leaves our factory with a QR code printed on the packaging. Scan it and the factory record for that batch opens: brand, cable size, batch number, year of manufacture and conductor. Compare the batch number on screen with the one printed on your coil — if the two do not match, it did not come from us.

Worked example, using the two numbers in the table above. A string drawing 12 A over a 25 m route from the roof array down to the inverter loses 12 × 25 × 11 ÷ 1000 = 3.3 V on this cable. The tabulated 11 mV/A/m already covers both legs of the circuit, positive and negative, so the route length is counted once, not doubled. On a string sitting at roughly 400 V that is 0.8% — take the string voltage from your inverter's MPPT window rather than assuming it. Load the same 25 m run to the full 36 A and the drop is 36 × 25 × 11 ÷ 1000 = 9.9 V. On a short rooftop run it is current, not distance, that pushes 4mm² up to the next size.

Should I use 4mm or 6mm DC cable for my solar panels?
Count the string current and measure the route first. 4mm² carries 36 A and drops 11 mV/A/m; 6mm² carries 46 A and drops 7.3 mV/A/m. One or two strings at 9–13 A each, on a short protected run, stay inside 4mm². A long roof-to-inverter route, three strings, or a commercial inverter feed goes to 1 core 6mm DC cable — the lower drop per metre is what you are paying for.
Can I use normal house wire for solar panels?
Not on the panel side. Building wire such as 3/.029 or 7/.029 is single-insulated PVC made to be pulled through conduit indoors, on a 220 V AC circuit. A panel string is a DC circuit that sits on a roof and runs at a far higher voltage. Use cable made for the DC side, keep it in conduit or trunking where it is exposed, and have your installer confirm both the size and the route.
