Battery bank to DC distribution
The short run from a battery or charge controller to a small DC distribution point, carrying real load current up to 10 A — a metre or two on a 12 V bank, further as the bank voltage rises.
The 10 A is the heat limit; on DC the length limit almost always arrives first. Volt drop is current × metres × 44 mV/A/m ÷ 1000, and DC work is normally designed to 3%. On a 12 V circuit 3% is 0.36 V, so a 4 A LED and fan load reaches 0.36 × 1000 ÷ (4 × 44) = 2.0 m before it is out of budget. Move the same load to a 48 V bank and 3% is 1.44 V, which buys 8.2 m. Put 4 A on a 100 V panel string and the budget is 3 V, worth 17 m. Same copper, three different answers — the system voltage is what changes them.
