10mm 2 Core Standard Cable

PILONE CABLES TECHNICAL TEAM

The size an electrician reaches for when a single-phase circuit has outgrown 6mm²: an instant geyser, a ducted AC point, a kitchen carrying an oven and a hob on one feed, or a short submain to a floor board. Two 10mm² class 2 conductors, 7 strands of 1.35 mm each — the build the trade still orders as 7/.052 — carrying 63 A on two loaded conductors at 450/750 V, 1.83 Ω/km, 4.4 mV/A/m. Drawn on the Pilone line in Lahore.

Check the coil before you pay for it

Every coil leaves our factory with a QR code printed on the packaging. Scan it and the factory record for that batch opens: brand, cable size, batch number, year of manufacture and conductor. Compare the batch number on screen with the one printed on your coil — if the two do not match, it did not come from us.

Specifications

Resistance per IEC 60228. Current capacity and voltage drop per BS 7671, installation method C (clipped direct), 30°C ambient, 2 loaded conductors. Verify sizing with a licensed electrician for your installation.

Reference standardsIEC 60228 (conductors), IEC 60227 (PVC cables)

Worked example, from the voltage-drop figure in the table. A 50 A feed to a sub-board, run 20 m from the main panel, loses 50 × 20 × 4.4 ÷ 1000 = 4.4 V — 2% of a 220 V supply, inside the 5% BS 7671 allows on a power circuit, which is 11 V here. Load the cable to its full 63 A and that 11 V is spent at about 40 m: 11 ÷ (63 × 4.4 ÷ 1000) = 39.7 m. Beyond that it is the metres deciding the size, not the amps — the same 63 A on 16mm 2 core cable at 2.8 mV/A/m reaches 11 V at about 62 m.

Where this cable belongs

Instant geyser and ducted AC points

One heavy appliance on its own breaker, where 6mm² at 46 A leaves no headroom. Read the rating plate, then size the breaker to it.

Kitchen and utility submains

A single feed to a kitchen board carrying oven, hob and water heater together, rather than three long runs from the main panel.

Floor and annexe board feeds

A short single-phase submain from the main panel to a floor board, a servant quarter or a shop front, inside the 40 m the drop allows at full load.

Current capacity depends on how the cable is installed. Derate for conduit, grouping, and high ambient temperature. Have a licensed electrician confirm the size for your load and run length — or start with the cable size calculator.

Frequently asked

What is the price of 10mm 2 core cable in Pakistan?
The price changes with the daily copper rate. We sell factory-direct from Lahore, below dealer rates. Message us on WhatsApp at +92 319 4262451 for today's price per meter.
What is 10mm 2 core standard cable used for?
High-load single-phase circuits inside buildings: split AC and geyser circuits, kitchen and high-load sockets, and feeds to sub-distribution boards. Rated around 63 A clipped direct.
How many amps does 10mm 2 core cable carry?
63 A with both conductors loaded, clipped direct at 30°C ambient, per BS 7671 reference method C — about 14 kVA at 220 V. The same 10mm² conductor in a 3 or 4 core cable with three phases loaded carries 57 A instead, because three warm conductors share one sheath. Inside conduit, grouped, or in summer heat, multiply the tabulated figure by the correction factor for your installation.
Is 10mm cable the same as 7/.052?
They are sold as the same size, but the numbers are not identical and it is worth knowing both. 7/.052 means 7 strands of 0.052 inch. One strand is 0.052 × 25.4 = 1.321 mm across, so the seven together compute to 9.6 mm² — sold as 10 mm². Our class 2 build for the same name is 7 strands of 1.35 mm, which computes to 10.0 mm². Ask for either and you are asking for the same shelf.
Do I need armoured cable instead?
Use armoured cable when the run is underground or exposed to impact. For indoor runs on trays or clipped to walls, standard 2-core is the normal choice.
