Two 16 mm² class 5 conductors — 126 strands of 0.40 mm each — for single-phase runs that carry real current and still have to bend. 85 A on BS 7671 method C at 30°C with both conductors loaded, which is about 18.7 kW at 220 V, on 450/750 V PVC. This is the genset tail, the welding-set lead and the flexible link into a distribution board: line and neutral only, with the earth run separately. The trade orders this size by the code 7/.064. Drawn on the Pilone line in Lahore.

Check the coil before you pay for it
Every coil leaves our factory with a QR code printed on the packaging. Scan it and the factory record for that batch opens: brand, cable size, batch number, year of manufacture and conductor. Compare the batch number on screen with the one printed on your coil — if the two do not match, it did not come from us.

Work the genset tail out before you order the length. A 12 kVA single-phase set delivers 12 000 ÷ 220 = 54.5 A. Over a 20 m tail the drop is 54.5 × 20 × 2.8 ÷ 1000 = 3.05 V — 1.4% of 220 V, well inside the 5% BS 7671 allows on a power circuit, which at 220 V is 11 V. Push the same cable to its full 85 A and that 11 V arrives at 11 000 ÷ (85 × 2.8) = 46 m. So current is the limit up to about 46 m, and run length is the limit beyond it.
The flexible run from a single-phase genset or UPS to the changeover switch. 85 A covers a set up to roughly 18 kVA at 220 V.
Portable high-current tools that get dragged across a floor daily. Class 5 stranding survives that; a class 2 conductor cracks at the flex point.
Short tails between busbar, isolator and panel, where a stiff conductor cannot be bent cleanly into the terminal.
Who buys this size: generator dealers and their installers, workshop owners, and contractors wiring plant rooms. The circuit is single-phase and heavy — a 220 V feed above roughly 60 A, where a fixed cable would carry the load but the run has to be movable or re-terminated. Two cores mean line and neutral only, so confirm how the earth is arranged before you order; if it has to travel inside the same sheath, take 16mm 3 core flexible cable. If nothing about the run ever moves, 16mm 2 core standard cable is the same 16 mm² of copper in the cheaper class 2 build.
