Fire resistant, flame retardant and low smoke are three separate claims, proved by three separate tests. Find out which one your specification means before anyone quotes you a price.
Pilone's line is PVC-insulated copper and aluminium power and lighting cable — 450/750 V fixed wiring, 300/500 V flexible cords, 70°C conductor rating, plus 90°C XLPE solar DC cable. We hold no fire-performance test reports, so none of it should be bought against a fire-safety clause. This page is here so you can tell the three claims apart and buy the right thing, from us or from somebody else.
The three names get used as if they were one product, and they are not. A fire resistant cable is judged on whether its circuit still works while it burns. A flame retardant cable is judged on whether flame travels along the cable. A low smoke cable is judged on what comes off it. A cable can pass one test and fail the other two, and a quotation that says only "fire safe" tells you which of the three it met: none of them, until the report is on the table.

Read the table left to right and the spending decision falls out of it. Flame retardance is about the building not being helped to burn. Low smoke is about people getting out. Fire resistance is about a pump, a fan or a sounder still doing its job at minute ten. Only the third one is expensive, and only the third one is worth arguing about.
Plainly, so nobody specifies the wrong thing off this page: we draw copper and aluminium power and lighting cable in Lahore, insulated and sheathed in PVC, and XLPE-insulated DC cable for solar. That is a general-purpose range. It has no fire-performance claim attached to it, because we do not hold the test reports that would justify one.

A fire survival cable is not a stronger version of an ordinary one. It is built so that when the polymer around the conductor is gone, something else — a mica-glass tape layer, a ceramifying compound — is still holding the conductors apart. That is the whole product. Ordinary PVC softens and the cores touch, and a short is the end of the circuit.
Which is why the substitution never shows up on handover. Both cables ring out the same on a continuity test, both look the same in the tray, both feed the sounder for years. The difference appears once, at the only moment the circuit existed for. That is also why the honest answer to "can you do it cheaper" on a life-safety circuit is no.
The fixings matter as much as the cable. A fire-rated circuit is usually required to be clipped with steel fixings, because plastic clips and ties let a hot cable drop out of the tray and pull its own terminations apart — a cable that survives the fire still fails if it is lying on the floor. Specify the support system with the cable, not after it.
Go back to the clause and work out which of the three it means. Many Pakistani specifications say "fire resistant" where the intent is flame retardance in a riser, and the two prices are not close.
Test house, standard, category, sample construction, date. A supplier who names a certification body but cannot produce the document has told you nothing you can build on.
Cable, glands, clips, joints and the enclosure. The rating belongs to the installed circuit, not to the drum.
Where the clause turns out to be about mechanical protection for a buried or exposed run rather than fire — which happens often — the answer is armoured cable, and the sizing conversation is on 3-phase cable size.
