Same cable as any other Pakistani connection: 10 mm² aluminium (7/.052) on loads to about 7 kW, 16 mm² (7/.064) from 10 kW.
A K-Electric connection is sized the same way as one in a WAPDA-area city: current from the sanctioned load, cable from the current. What Karachi changes is the ambient the cable works in, and that is the step most sizing charts skip — 10 mm² aluminium reads 48 A on the table and 41.8 A once corrected for 40°C. K-Electric's service line ends at the meter; the run from there to your distribution board is yours to supply.
A meter connection cable in Karachi is the same product as on a WAPDA-area connection anywhere else in Pakistan: 2 core for single-phase 220 V, 4 core for three-phase 400 V, sized so the cable's corrected capacity clears the current the sanctioned load draws. The market sells it in both cities as WAPDA cable or silver cable — aluminium, 7/.052 sold as 10 mm² and 7/.064 sold as 16 mm². No K-Electric approval attaches to those names; they are shop vocabulary for a size.
The full size ladder, the strand-code arithmetic and the three-phase table are on the WAPDA cable page, and they apply to a Karachi connection unchanged. This page covers the K-Electric side of it: what the utility hands over, what you buy, how the rating reads on an exposed Karachi wall, and how the cable reaches you.
Published capacities assume 30°C air around the cable. A service run clipped to an outside wall in Karachi does not get that for much of the year, and the correction is a straight multiplier on the rating.
| Size | Aluminium at 30°C | Aluminium at 40°C | Copper at 30°C | Copper at 40°C |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 mm² (7/.052) | 48 A | 41.8 A | 63 A | 54.8 A |
| 16 mm² (7/.064) | 66 A | 57.4 A | 85 A | 74.0 A |
| 25 mm² | 87 A | 75.7 A | 112 A | 97.4 A |
| 35 mm² | 107 A | 93.1 A | 138 A | 120.1 A |
Work one job through it. A 10 kW single-phase connection draws 45.5 A: the 30°C column says 10 mm² aluminium is fine, the 40°C column says 41.8 A and it is not. On an exposed wall read the second column — 16 mm² at 57.4 A corrected, or 10 mm² in copper at 54.8 A.
