The earthed version of the 1.5 mm² cord — line, neutral and earth in one sheath. Three 1.5 mm² class 5 conductors, 30 strands of 0.25 mm each, PVC insulated and sheathed to 300/500 V. On method C at 30°C it is tabulated at 19.5 A with two loaded conductors — the normal appliance case, earth carrying nothing — and 17.5 A if all three cores are loaded. That makes it the lead for anything with a metal body you can touch: fridges, room coolers, irons, kettles, pedestal fans and three-pin extensions on a 220 V supply. Every coil leaves our factory with a QR code printed on the packaging. Scan it and the factory record for that batch opens: brand, cable size, batch number, year of manufacture and conductor. Compare the batch number on screen with the one printed on your coil — if the two do not match, it did not come from us.

Work the drop out before you cut the lead. It is current × length × 29 mV/A/m ÷ 1000. A 1500 W electric iron draws 1500 ÷ 220 = 6.8 A, so a 4 m cord drops 6.8 × 4 × 29 ÷ 1000 = 0.79 V — nothing you could measure with a site meter. Length only starts to bite near the top of the cable: at the full 19.5 A, the 11 V that 5% of 220 V comes to is reached at 11 000 ÷ (19.5 × 29) = 19 m. Below that, heat is the limit and the tabulated current is the number to work to.
Metal-bodied appliances, typically 150 W to 1 kW — under 5 A at 220 V — that must have an earth path back to the board.
Heating loads up to about 2 kW. A 1500 W iron pulls 1500 ÷ 220 = 6.8 A, a third of what this cord is rated for.
Made-up extension leads and re-terminated appliance cords, where the earth pin has to be connected and not just fitted.
Who buys this size: repair shops replacing burnt appliance leads, electricians making up three-pin extensions for home and site, and homeowners who have found two-core cord on a metal-bodied appliance and want it put right. The earth core is the whole point of the third conductor — on a fridge, cooler or iron it is what lets the breaker or RCD clear a fault instead of the person holding the handle. If nothing on the appliance is metal and earthed, 1.5mm 2 core flexible cable does the same job with less copper. If the load runs near 15 A, or the lead gets dragged across a floor every day, step up to 2.5mm 3 core flexible cable at 27 A.
