Four cores carry three phases plus a neutral, so this is a three-phase cable, not a bigger version of the household flex. The people buying 6mm 4 core cable in the flexible build are generator installers running a tail from a set to the changeover panel, borewell fitters whose cable goes down the bore and comes back up with the pump, and site contractors feeding mixers and welding plants that shift as the work moves. At 41 A with three cores loaded it covers about 28 kVA at 400 V — the small-to-mid genset and light-machinery band. Above that, step up to 10mm 4 core flexible cable at 57 A.

Size it on current per phase, not on the set's badge. A 15 kVA generator on a 400 V three-phase supply delivers 15000 ÷ (1.732 × 400) = 22 A per phase, roughly half what this cable is tabulated for. On a 12 m tail that current drops 22 × 12 × 7.3 ÷ 1000 = 1.9 V, or 0.5% of 400 V. Load the cable to its full 41 A and the drop reaches the 5% BS 7671 allows on a power circuit — 20 V of 400 V — at about 67 m: 20000 ÷ (41 × 7.3) = 66.8. Flexible cable is also usually bought on a drum and left partly coiled, and a coiled cable under load carries less than the table says, because the heat has nowhere to go. Pay the tail out flat before you run the set.
