PILONE CABLES TECHNICAL TEAM

Three 25 mm² class 2 copper conductors, 7 strands of 2.14 mm per core, PVC insulated and sheathed to 450/750 V. 96 A with three loaded conductors on reference method C, 0.727 Ω/km, 1.75 mV/A/m — about 66 kVA on a 400 V three-phase supply. This is the three-phase feeder that carries no neutral: starter panel to tubewell motor, compressor or lift machine room. About 60 kg of copper in a 90 m coil. Drawn on the Pilone line in Lahore.

Check the coil before you pay for it

Every coil leaves our factory with a QR code printed on the packaging. Scan it and the factory record for that batch opens: brand, cable size, batch number, year of manufacture and conductor. Compare the batch number on screen with the one printed on your coil — if the two do not match, it did not come from us.

Where this cable belongs

Tubewell and pump starters

Starter panel to a three-phase tubewell or booster motor. The motor takes three phases and an earth at the frame — no neutral goes down the run.

Machine and compressor feeders

Fixed supply to a workshop lathe, an air compressor or a textile machine drawing up to the 96 A this cable carries.

Balanced three-phase submains

Panel to panel where every circuit downstream is three-phase, so the neutral has nothing to return and can be left out.

The buyer for this build is almost always doing one job: getting three phases to a motor. A tubewell contractor, a factory maintenance electrician, a lift installer. Three core at 25 mm² carries the three phases and nothing else — the earth goes to the frame separately, which is normal practice on motor work and is why the 4-core version would just be a spare conductor sitting in the sheath. Where the load downstream is a mix of single-phase circuits, the neutral has to be there and the right cable is 25mm 4 core cable. For a single-phase incomer, 25mm 2 core standard cable at 112 A. One step down in the same three-core build is 16mm 3 core cable at 76 A, and the sizing question in general is worked through on the three-phase cable size page.

Worked example — a 70 A motor 45 m from the starter.

Voltage drop is current × length × the tabulated 1.75 mV/A/m, divided by 1000. So 70 × 45 × 1.75 ÷ 1000 = 5.5 V, which is 1.4% of 400 V — well inside the 5% BS 7671 allows on a power circuit, 20 V here. Load the same cable to its full 96 A and the 20 V budget is spent at 20 ÷ (96 × 1.75 ÷ 1000) = 119 m. Beyond that the run length picks the size, not the motor — check yours with the voltage drop calculator.

Current capacity depends on how the cable is installed. Derate for conduit, grouping, and high ambient temperature. Have a licensed electrician confirm the size for your load and run length — or start with the cable size calculator.

Frequently asked

What is the price of 25mm 3 core cable in Pakistan?
The price changes with the daily copper rate. We sell factory-direct from Lahore, below dealer rates. Message us on WhatsApp for today's price per meter.
What is 25mm 3 core cable used for?
3-phase power without a neutral: motor feeders, submains to distribution boards, and industrial machine supply. Rated around 96 A clipped direct.
Do I need 4 core instead?
Use 3-core when the supply is 3-phase without a neutral, such as most motor and machine feeders. Choose 4-core when the circuit needs a neutral conductor as well.
How many amps does 25mm 3 core cable carry?
96 A with three loaded conductors, clipped direct at 30°C ambient, per BS 7671 reference method C. On a 400 V three-phase supply that is about 66 kVA (1.732 × 400 × 96 ÷ 1000). Pulled through conduit, bunched with other circuits, or run in summer heat it carries less — the tabulated figure is multiplied by the correction factor for your installation.
Is 25mm the same as 2.5mm?
No, and the mix-up is a safety problem. 25 mm² is a three-phase feeder conductor at 96 A. 2.5 mm² is appliance and lighting size, 27 A on two loaded conductors, with a tenth of the copper. Say the decimal out loud when you order — the two names sound alike across a counter. If you want the small one with an earth core, see 2.5mm 3 core flexible cable.
