Write the six fields down first: construction, conductor class, cross-section, cores, voltage rating, metres. Then ask for prices.
Most brand arguments in this trade are really one of those six fields quietly changing between two quotes — a two-core against a three-core, a class 5 flexible against a class 2, a short coil against a measured length. We hold no test data on Pioneer Cables' product and will not rank a competitor on nothing. What we can give you is the specification line that makes any two suppliers comparable, this one included.
A cable order is six fields, not a brand name. Written out, one line reads: 4 mm² 3 core standard cable, IEC 60228 class 2 (7/0.85), 450/750 V PVC, 92 metres. Any two suppliers quoting that line are quoting the same cable, and the gap between their figures is then a real gap. Change one field and the two numbers stop being comparable.

The field left blank most often is the second one, and it is the one that changes what you are holding.
Class 2 is the rigid stranded conductor for fixed wiring — seven thicker strands, 7/0.67 at 2.5 mm². Class 5 is the flexible conductor, many fine strands, 50/0.25 at the same nominal size. Both are copper and both are IEC 60228; they are built for different jobs, not to different quality grades.

Read the last column across: the class does not move the amps. What it moves is the resistance ceiling — 7.98 ÷ 7.41 = 1.08 at 2.5 mm², so the standard allows a class 5 conductor about 8% more resistance than a class 2 of the same size. Compare standard cable against standard and flexible cable against flexible, or the two lines are not the same product.

The same 4 mm² copper is rated 36 A with two loaded conductors and 32 A with three, because three loaded cores share the heat. On a 20 A circuit that is 36 − 20 = 16 A of margin as a two-core and 32 − 20 = 12 A as a three-core, before any derating for conduit, grouping or summer ambient. The third core also carries the earth inside the sheath, which is usually why it is there.
So a quote that comes back a core short is not a better price, it is a different cable. Decide the core count from the circuit, then hold every supplier to it. We publish no measurement of Pioneer Cables' product, because we have not measured it, and no purity figure at all, ours included, because a buyer cannot verify one. What we publish is the specification our own cable is drawn and sold against: IEC 60228 conductor classes and their resistance limits, 450/750 V PVC insulation for fixed wiring, and the installation assumptions behind every current figure on this site. All of it can be checked on a sample — weigh it with the conductor mass test, or put a meter on it with the resistance test.
The rest is the route.
