Plan the conduit early and buy the wire late. Conduit and boxes go in before the concrete and before the plaster; the wire is ordered once the conduit is finished and can be measured.
Until the conduit is run, nobody can say honestly how much wire the house needs. After the plaster is closed, nothing about the layout can be changed without breaking a wall.
Naye ghar ki wiring: stage by stage
On a new house in Pakistan the conduit is planned early and the wire is bought late: point marking, the conduit route and the board position are fixed before the slab is poured and before the walls are plastered, while the wire itself is ordered once the conduit is complete and measurable. Buying wire at the start ties cash into a commodity that moves daily and leaves coils sitting on an open site; planning the conduit at the end means chasing walls you have already paid to finish.
Approved layout, then point marking
Walls up, nothing cast. Every switch, socket, fan, AC and geyser position marked on the wall and agreed by whoever will live in the house. This is the cheapest hour of the whole job.
Slab conduit, before the pour
Pipe and ceiling boxes tied into the reinforcement before the concrete goes in. Miss this and every ceiling point afterwards becomes a surface run down a finished wall.
Wall chasing and back boxes
After block work, before plaster. The distribution board position and how many spare ways it will carry are settled here, along with the route from the meter to the board.
Plaster: the deadline
Once the plaster closes, the layout is decided. Walk the house with the electrician and check every marked point against the conduit before the trowel comes out.
Measure, count, order
The conduit is now measurable and the points are countable, so the wire order stops being a guess. This is when to ask for the day's rate, not six months earlier.
Pull, terminate, test
Wire pulled through the conduit, board fitted and labelled, earth electrode installed, circuits tested, and only then the connection application and the fittings.
What the conduit makes permanent
Wire can be pulled out and replaced for the price of the wire. Conduit cannot — it is cast into a slab or buried under plaster, and changing it means breaking the house. So the decisions worth arguing about on a new build are the ones the conduit locks in.
Where the distribution board sits, and how many spare ways it carries. Central beats convenient: every circuit run is measured from it. A board with no spare ways is how two appliances end up sharing one breaker.
AC and geyser positions, with their isolators. These are dedicated circuits back to the board, and they are the ones people forget until the unit arrives.
A spare conduit to the roof. Solar, a water pump, a stair light, a camera — the roof route gets used sooner than anyone expects, and it is free to lay now.
A spare conduit for data. Internet and CCTV cable do not share a pipe with power comfortably. One extra empty pipe to the lounge and the roof settles it.
The earth electrode position and the route from it to the board, agreed before the ground is finished.
A draw wire left in every empty conduit. An empty pipe with no draw wire in it is a pipe you will have to chase for anyway.
New house wiring is a full electrical installation, not a single cable size. Have a licensed electrician design the circuit layout, confirm the point schedule and the board, and test the installation before it is energised.
